Which Plant Where Interactive Tool Begins Beta-testing

By Wpw, May 16, 2024

The Which Plant Where online plant selector tool is about to complete its beta version, which will enable users to select the best plants against a range of criteria with a long-term focus on climate suitability and sustainability.

This will be integral to future planning of urban green spaces, to ensure that plant types selected will survive in changing climatic conditions.

The project team are seeking select individuals to test and provide feedback on the beta version of the tool from 30 April to 15 May 2021.

Spaces are limited to test the beta tool, so register your interest to access the tool early here.

The aim is that this tool will open opportunities for city councils and developers to make smarter plant investments that focus on climate longevity, suitability, and amenity value.

Developed using research data from Macquarie University and Western Sydney University and funding from Hort Innovation’s Green Cities Fund, the final tool will feature maps highlighting changes in climate suitability for plants under predicted climate change scenarios over 2030, 2050 and 2070 timeframes.

Other key elements that will be assessed will include, species diversity, shade value and biodiversity benefits, including pollinator-friendliness, and urban landscapes.

Best practice guidelines that focus on urban planting on leading research and industry knowledge will also be made available, streamlining decision making for plant purchases with specific needs and climates.
