Good data is critical for decision-making and strategic planning in any organisation. It can provide valuable insights into the quality and value of an asset and uncover underlying issues or barriers to success. This approach also applies to our urban forests. To maximise the environmental, economic and social return of these natural assets, we need to know what we have, how it performs, and what resources are required to maintain them through the life cycle of these assets. It is crucial to identify and quantify successes and failures in urban settings as this can help policymakers and urban forest managers to optimise use of resources and minimise losses when investing in urban forestry programs.

This best practice guideline provides an easy-to-follow process for undertaking and implementing a best practice tree inventory for your urban forest.
